Ride With The Best
The ATLAS isn’t simply a novel design, like some other throttle locks. The ATLAS is the most universal and intuitive throttle lock ever made, built for motorcycle world travel. It will be the last throttle lock you’ll ever need to buy.
Better Materials Make Better Products
The ATLAS Throttle Lock is made of hardened stainless steel and will last the life of your motorcycle. These high quality materials allow us to laser cut extremely thin parts while maintaining strength and resilience.
What Is This Thing?
Are you wondering what this black chunk of metal is for? Well, it’s a mechanical cruise control for your motorcycle. It’s called a throttle lock, which can be misleading because it doesn’t actually “lock” the throttle of your motorcycle. When it’s engaged it simply holds your throttle in any position you leave it in. When you want to adjust your speed, simply rotate the throttle like normal. It uses pressure and friction to prevent the throttle from rotating freely.
How does it work?
First off, the ATLAS is clamped to the plastic throttle tube, between your rubber grip flange and the throttle housing. The ATLAS Throttle Lock has two buttons. One to engage the unit and another to disengage the unit. When the ATLAS is engaged, a friction pad on a stainless steel tab presses against the throttle housing. You can override the ATLAS at all times. The ATLAS Throttle Lock doesn’t disengage when you rotate the throttle. We did this intentionally so you can make incremental speed adjustments as you ride.
Who cares?
We do. We offer a 2 year manufacturer warranty. Our aim is to ensure that you are happy with the ATLAS Throttle Lock.
Friction Pads are required.
The ATLAS Throttle Lock was designed to be used with friction pads. Friction pads can last anywhere from 3,000 miles to 40,000+ miles. The wear depends on how often you rotate the throttle while it is engaged and if your throttle housings has sharp edges that rub on the friction pad.
Which friction pad should you use?
The friction pads come in 3 different thicknesses. Your kit comes with two of each size but you will only need to apply one pad to your ATLAS. Watch our installation video and follow the instructions to determine which friction pad works best. You will want to start with the thickest friction pad and see if it fits between the throttle housing and the ATLAS Stopper Arm. If it doesn't fit, try the next size down until you find the right size that does not make contact with the throttle housing when disengaged.
Where should I place my friction pad?
We recommend adhering the friction pad along the top edge of the Stopper Arm, but, for some motorcycles, this isn't the best solution. If your throttle housing has any bevels on it which will interfere with the friction pad during any part of the rotation, then you will want to adjust the placement of the friction pad to avoid those bevels. Sometimes this means placing the friction pad a few millimeters away from the top edge of the stopper arm, or maybe placing it to the far right or left on the stopper arm.
Steps to determine fitment
First, is there enough room for the ATLAS? All you need is a gap of 0.1" (2.5mm) or greater between the grip and the throttle housing. That's roughly 3 bank cards thick.
Top Kit vs. Bottom Kit
The ATLAS Throttle Lock comes in 2 different configurations. A Top Kit and a Bottom Kit. Most riders will be using the Bottom Kit, but some will need the Top Kit.
Top Kit: You'll want a Top Kit if:
- There is less than 1.5 inches (38 mm) of clearance between the tank and the throttle housing at full right turn.
- There's a heated grip wire that comes out the bottom half of your rubber grip flange.
Bottom Kit: You'll want the Bottom Kit if:
- There's a heated grip wire that comes out the top half of your rubber grip flange.
- There are no other interferences. The majority of motorcycles will be able to use the Bottom Kit.
What's included with the Kit?
Your kit comes with everything you need to mount the ATLAS on many different motorcycles.
